Well guys,
A friend of mine told me about your interest of my film ”The Twelve months of summer”.Since a year ago there exists a limited DVD-edition(with english subtitles )made on special request from some Film Universities in the world but not for commercial use.There are negotiations about a new swedish DVD release.But if someone in the meantime is interested in the film I might help you to achieve a copy.

Well, a couple days ago some wonderful and generous Norwegian digitized and uploaded their VHS copy to at least one private torrent tracker, and I know of its existence on at least one more. As it was recorded from Norwegian TV, it has hard-coded Norwegian subtitles, and soft English, one of which has a black background that covers up the Norwegian.

w00t!

What a superb sci-fi film! While I was not horrified by the ending, it certainly was chilling. But the real strengths here are the ensemble performances of the cast, and the amazing script.

Oh, and the title of the film is spoken by a character, and the subtitle English translation is ”The twelve months of Summer.” I am liking that more and more, even if it isn’t a literal translation, it just has a nice ”ring” to it in English.

I guess both of those would be okay. I’d probably pick the first one though. The second one kinda sounds like an action title ;)

English is fairly complicated as well. But Swedish has alot of very unique stuff, that doesn’t exist in any other language (bar some nordic ones). Which apparently makes it hell to learn from scratch.

One particulary nasty thing is the articles you use before a noun, ”en” or ”ett” in swedish. There’s no logic applied here, you just have to learn if ”en” or ”ett” belongs to the noun or not. And you really need to know the proper article, it sounds really weird otherwise and it changes the nouns pluralform and stuff like that.
So yea… weird language :)

O_o Hmmm… That’s weird. I know as a native English speaker I should be the last one to say that about another language. English is one of the less logical languages out there; in fact, there are plenty of Americans who can’t speak it properly. ;)

How about ”The Summer of Twelve Months,” or even ”The Summer: Twelve Months?”

In the film, there’s this place where there’s everlasting summer. Even though the rest of Sweden is cold as hell and covered in snow, that particular area is sunny and warm.

The title is actually not that easily translated. Swedish has alot of complex rules for definite articles. For example, ”Summer” is ”Sommar” in swedish, while ”The Summer” translates to ”Sommaren”.

However, ”tolv månader” is indefinite, so ”the twelve months” is actually an incorrect translation, it should say ”twelve months”.

I guess ”Twelve Months of the Summer” would be the proper way to translate the title, altough I don’t know if that makes a whole lot of sense in english.
”The Twelve Months of Summer” sounds alot better. But yea, that wouldn’t be correct either, strictly speaking.

Since your English is obviously excellent, can I ask you for a translation of the title? imdb lists it as ”The Twelve Months of the Summer,” which doesn’t make much sense to me. Seems like there is one too many ”the’s” in there.

Would it be ”The Twelve Months of Summer,” which would be more of a play on words, or ”The Twelve Month Summer,” which more directly implies a particular summer lasting twelve months?

Or am I just dense, and am not getting imdb’s title…? ;)
